Doors...

Date

April 2023

God provided the first door before us, our parents. We were unwillingly pushed over it's threshold crying and screaming in protest to leave a world of warmth, comfort and love that was all we knew. But it was over, or so we thought... but there were millions of other doors ahead of us, some opened to bright and happy days in the sun while others to cold dark nights of shadows and fears. Some we would be eager to open while others we opened with trepidation, some allowed us to go back through them but others locked tightly behind us never allowing us to return.

"The Yellow Wallpaper" written by Charlotte Perkins Gilman of someone trapped behind a locked door, in this case the door is a symbol of the restraints placed on women by society.

In the poem "The Door" written by Margaret Atwood she uses doors as symbols of the different and unavoidable phases of ones mortality birth, childhood, adulthood, aging and finally death.

An unknown author wrote: "Behind every door is a story" The point being that behind every decision there is a story.
