"Walk a mile in my shoes"
The 19th century American author Mary Torrans Lathrap penned her poem originally entitled "Judge Softly" c1895. Better known for its thematic line "walk a mile in his moccasins" (which in time was incorrectly quoted as "walk a mile in his shoes") was a compassionate effort to bring to light the unjust treatment of the American indian by the contemporary society of the time.
Though Mrs. Lathrap's reference pointed to the harsh and painful history of these oppressed people we have borrowed from her the perception that we can learn much about a person based on their clothing and particularly in this case, their shoes. In this project we have narrowed our view to footwear belonging to those who's shoes bore witness to their struggles, heir environment, their interests, and possibly their hopes.
This project was based on a study by the "Journal of Research in Personality" Volume 46, Issue 4, August 2012, Page 423- 430
